Land of the Brave

I visited Scotland not that long ago while my friend was studying in Edinburgh. I was soooo excited to finally make it to Scotland. Land of the Kilts, Haggis, and overly manly men. I happened to be there over a weekend and so I found out where the closest Church was and decided I'd get up early Sunday and walk to church while my friend was sleeping in. As I made my way to church it began to rain. I was wearing flip-flops because I knew I'd get caught in the situation and I didn't want to get my actual shoes I was wearing to church wet. Well, about every 5 or 10 minutes I managed to duck underneath a tree and wait out the pouring rain until it let up enough that I wouldn't get completely soaked. Finally 40 minutes I made it to the Church. I opened my bag and pulled out wipes to cleaned up the leaves, mud, and small sticks plastered to the back of my legs. I slipped on my shoes and made my way in the Chapel a minute before it started. It felt great to be a church and out of the rain... the people were great and friendly, I was able to have the Sacrament and once the meeting was over... it was back out into the sporadic rain.

Sometimes as we're making our way through the week, we get caught in the rain of the world. A lot of times we're prepared with a raincoat, shoes, wipes to make ourselves somewhat clean from the debris... but it isn't until Sunday when we step into church, partake of the Sacrament, and cleanse ourselves completely that we are ready to move forward. Without this safe haven we wouldn't be able to last week upon week of constant ethic turmoil and pressure. We need that vice and though most don't realize it... it's church!
So next time you think it couldn't get any better than spending time with Braveheart and listening to bagpipes... having that rejuvenation  can make it even better!
